I’m thankful for luckily having the experience of making friends in a few hours.

When you are on an exchange program somehow this happens more often, maybe because you know that every minute of the experience counts for 10 days outside this special bubble.

You learn to appreciate this magic and to treasure, the friends you make. Even when you don’t live close by, because many times you are experiencing the same things and it is always good to have a friend to call when you need to share happiness or concern.

Today I am thankful for my friend Valeria, she is a badass woman from whom I’ve learned that one needs to be specific about what you want in life and not being afraid to go for it.

My friend and I met in Washington at a conference, we became friends very quickly. We spent New Year's Eve together on what I consider one of the best road trips of my life. I am so thankful that she spent some good time convincing me to go. I became part of a little loving family with people from Turkey, Bolivia, and Laos.

It’s been 4 years since the last time I met Valeria, but somehow thanks to the magic of friendship we found time today to have a call and talk about life and gossip like if time didn’t exist.

I know that in the future there is a trip waiting for us to meet again. Maybe it will be on a white sandy shore of the Caribbean, perhaps in a beautiful city in Canada but I really hope is Vegas.

It might seem like it was just a call, but through that, I felt connected to the memories and the experience we shared together. You can never be tired to experience the alchemy of understanding each other over time and space.

Today I’m thankful for that.
